- Choose a topic. Click on one of these links and choose a topic: All Science Fair Projects, Science Fair Central, Biology Science Fair Ideas.
- Write a hypothesis from your topic. Try to write it using an If ... Then ... statement. Such as If the volume of music increases (independent variable), Then the height (dependent variable) of the plant will increase.
- Brainstorm how you will conduct your experiment.
- What materials will you need? Record these in your journal and label it Materials.
- What variable will you change (independent)?
- What variable will you measure (dependent) and how will you measure it?
- What variables will you have to control.
- Write up the steps of your experiment and label it Procedure in your journal.
- Complete your initial research. If you are measuring heart rate, research what affects heart rate. Be sure to give credit to your sources of information in a bibliography in your journal.
- Get ready to write your draft report. You can sign up for free at sciencewriter.cast.org which can help you write it.
- Buy a display board and begin gathering materials for it.
